Weaving Straw Hats |
In it's heday, Taiwan's hat-weaving industry was one of the island's five major export industries, especially during Japanese colonial period. By the 1950s, the industry was in decline. Taiwan's straw hat, modeled after a Western-style hat, is said to have been made during the late Ching dynasty. Today, straw hat are only used in cultural event.
Sun-dried "noodles thread" |
"Noodles thread" are major staple in f Taiwanese cuisine. The homade noodles, known for their slippery texture, are sun-dried in an airy place. Today they have been mostly replaced by machine-made noodles.
Formosan Sneakhead Fish Egg |
Because of their high market value, the eggs of Formosan Sneakhead Fish are called "heavenly fish" as they arw considered a gift from heaven. In watertime, a large number of wild Sneakhead Fish swim to Taiwan southerwest coast breed.
Bamboo Lantern |
Bamboo lantern can be devided in to Chuanchou and the Fuchou Styles. The Chuanchou style shown here has a set pattern, and is still used in temples and other ritual ceremonies. The Fuchou style bamboo lantern are more like umbrella that can be unfurled.
